The 28th International Conference on Engineering and Product Design Education will be hosted by the University of Bristol, Clifton Campus, on the Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September 2026; with pre-conference workshops and events on the Wednesday 2nd September 2026.

The E&PDE 2026 Theme is: Exploring Diversity in Engineering and Product Design Education.

Inclusive design asks designers and engineers to empathise and understand the diverse people they are designing products and services for, but what if that diversity was mirrored in the wider engineering, design and product development industry? A diverse design team offers opportunities to provide appropriate solutions and understand psychological and physiological needs as well as cultural or social nuances which ethnographic research and design tools may not be able to fully capture. The E&PDE 2026 conference is dedicated to acknowledging and changing the visible lack of diversity within Engineering and Product Design Education. The conference is organised in partnership with the Design Education Special Interest Group (DESIG) of the Design Society and the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED).

The E&PDE 2026 conference will bring together representatives from education and industry who have an interest in sharing new perspectives on design education. It will provide a forum for educators, practitioners and students from engineering and product design fields to discuss current and future educational issues. Professionals and students from other disciplines are also invited to contribute and participate.

We will continue the Visual Papers Track, inviting papers with high visual content and less text.
