The 29th International Conference on Engineering and Product Design Education will be hosted by TU Delft’s Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 August 2027; with pre-conference workshops and events on Wednesday 25 August 2027.
The E&PDE 2027 general theme is: The Changing Face of Design Education [Revisited]
Rapid socio-technological developments, geo-political dynamics, and the expansion of design into new multidisciplinary territories are only a few factors that inform and shape the changing face of design education. At E&PDE 2027 in Delft we will collectively explore which dilemmas and challenges these developing circumstances pose, as well as which opportunities they create, for design education and beyond. For instance, how can design education critically engage with technologies that develop at a pace which is out of sync with current pedagogical rhythms? How can design education responsibly respond to shifting global power dynamics? To meaningfully engage with these questions we decided to revisit the theme of the 2004 E&PDE conference in Delft: The Changing Face of Design Education. We very much welcome early-stage research explorations and experimental formats which provoke the emergence of new ideas, research, or practice. How can design education become more provocative to change future developments?
The conference is organised in partnership with the Design Education Special Interest Group (DESIG) of the Design Society and the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED).
The E&PDE 2027 conference will bring together representatives from education and industry who have an interest in sharing new perspectives on design education. It will provide a forum for educators, practitioners and students from engineering and product design fields to discuss current and future educational issues. Professionals and students from other disciplines are also warmly invited to contribute and participate.
As part of our Exploratory Track, we invite papers in which the visual content is as important as the text and is proportionally represented. As such, we welcome early-stage research explorations and experimental formats which provoke the emergence of new ideas, research, or practice.
