The 19th International Conference on Engineering and product Design Education will be hosted by the HiOA in Oslo, Norway. The conference is organised in partnership with in partnership with the Design Education Special Interest Group (DESIG) of the Design Society<\/a> and the Institution of Engineering Designers<\/a> (IED)<\/a>. The conference brings together representatives from Education, Design Practice, Industry and Government agencies that have an interest in developing new approaches and direction in Design Education. The conference provides a forum for participants to discuss current educational issues and to identify new approaches, address new challenges and shape new directions for design education.<\/p>\n

This year’s conference theme emphasises the importance of Design Education for a Sustainable Future. The backbone of both design and engineering is a tradition of building up communities and making them better. An important challenge for educators is to enable the students\u2019 ability to contribute to various tasks, both on the strategic management level as well as in detailing construction of a product. Designers do this through both digital and material approaches to engage users and stakeholders. Society goes through constant change, and design expertise should evolve with it. Diverse communities require a variety of learning skills. This requires extensive knowledge about how to balance technical construction with ethical and human centered design approaches. Students must become problem solvers using wide-ranging project approaches. There are many different ways pedagogical design approaches can be made relevant to industrial production. Design students are expected to work in flexible environments while acquiring lifelong learning skills. This is important for future research to encourage designers to rethink their engagement with the material world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
